Condition

Some customers may comment that the passenger seat wiring is binding or catching on the seat adjuster mechanism and/or that the SIR indicator light in the instrument panel cluster is illuminated. This may cause the harness to become damaged or disconnected.

Technicians may find DTC B0081 71 set in the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).

Cause

This condition may be caused if the wiring harness wraps around the connector bracket when the front passenger seat is in the full forward position. If the harness is caught and the seat is moved to the full rear position, the harness can be disconnected or damaged.

Correction

1. Remove the passenger seat from the vehicle. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.
2. Inspect the seat harness for damaged wiring and connectors. Inspect for pins pulled from the connector housing, torn wires or damaged insulation.

- If the harness is damaged in any way, replace the harness with the part number listed below.
- If the harness is not damaged, remove the harness from the seat.

3. With the harness removed, modify the harness as shown. Use electrical tape to wrap the two branches together for a length of 100 mm (4 in) from the " new location " to the "current location ".

4. Reinstall the harness as shown. Ensure that the harness is clear of the bracket.
5. Reinstall the seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.
6. Verify that the seat functions properly and the harness does not get caught when the seat is cycled forward and rearward.
