14. Disconnect the wheel drive shafts from the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement).
15. Remove the 2 bolts from the transmission brace.
16. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
17. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (Service and Repair).
18. Mark the relationship of the flywheel to the torque converter for reassembly.
19. Use the J 43653 to prevent the crankshaft from rotating.
20. Remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts.
21. Remove the transmission cooler lines by removing the nut holding the bracket to the transaxle case.
22. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) wiring harness from the sensor.
23. Support the transaxle with a suitable jack.
24. Remove the transaxle to engine bolts.
25. Separate the engine and the transaxle.
26. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle.

Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 35944-A) (Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 35944-A))Transmission Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 45096) (Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 45096)).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the PNP switch.
2. Install the shifter cable bracket.
3. Install the lower transmission to engine stud.
4. Install the transmission mount.
5. Position the transaxle in the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
6. Install the lower transmission to engine bolts and nuts and tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
7. Connect the transaxle cooler pipes to the transaxle and tighten the cooler pipes to 8 Nm (71 lb in).
8. Use the J 43653 to prevent the crankshaft from rotating.
9. Install the torque converter to flywheel bolts and tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb ft).
10. Install the wheel drive shafts to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement).
11. Remove the transaxle jack.
12. Connect the wiring harness to the VSS.
13. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. Install the flywheel inspection cover bolts and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
15. Install the upper transmission to engine bolts and stud and tighten all of the bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
16. Install the transmission to engine brace bolts and tighten to 72 Nm (53 lb ft).
17. Install the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement, Service and Repair
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Install the transaxle mount to body bolts and tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
20. Remove the engine support fixture.
21. Install the engine wiring harness grounds to the transaxle to engine mount stud and nut and tighten the nut to 8 Nm (71 lb in).
22. Install the shift linkage to the transmission.
23. Connect the electrical connectors to the PNP switch and transaxle.
24. Install the underhood electrical junction block. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
25. Install the TCM. Refer to Transmission Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
26. Install the ECM. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine.
27. Install the air outlet duct, the PCV hose, and the intake plenum. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 2.2L or 2.4L engine.
28. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
29. Inspect the transmission fluid level.
Note: It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.
Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, the ECM, powertrain control module (PCM), or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.
30. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Transmission Adaptive Functions (Transmission Adaptive Functions).
