TECHNICALBulletin No.: 08-08-64-012
Date: August 14, 2008
Subject:
Driver, Passenger Front Door Speaker Rattle, Buzz, Squeak (Apply Felt Tape to Front Door Trim Retainers)
Models:
2005-2009 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle, buzz or squeal coming from driver or passenger side. This noise is more noticeable with heavy bass music.
Cause
This condition may be due to contact between the door metal retainers and fiberglass on the door trim upper four retaining clips. The front door has a sub-woofer speaker which outputs low frequency bass music. This low frequency causes the trim clips to resonate against the fiberglass inner structure, causing a buzz or rattle.
Correction
Technicians are to add flocking tape, felt tape or foam (2 mm/0.08 in thick) to the trim retainers per the procedure below:
1. Verify the customer concern by noting what kind of music and at what radio settings the noise is occurring.
2. Remove the door panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
3. Locate the four trim retainers (shown above).
4. Clean the trim retainer area with an alcohol-based wipe.
5. Apply flocking tape, felt tape or foam (2 mm/0.08 in thick) to the four trim retainers. You can obtain the flocking tape from Kent Automotive, P/N KT13485, or use any foam or tape 2 mm (0.08 in) thick.
6. Re-install the door panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
7. Verify that the customer concern is eliminated by playing the same music at the same radio settings.
