Power Door Lock Key Cylinder Switches Malfunction
Power Door Lock Key Cylinder Switches Malfunction
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) monitors the voltage level of the key switch unlock signal circuit. When the key is inserted into the right front door key cylinder and turned to the Unlock position, a switch within the right front door latch closes causing the voltage to drop within the key switch signal circuit. The RCDLR will detect the drop in voltage and will command all the doors to unlock.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Command the doors to LOCK and UNLOCK by using the driver door lock switch, all doors should perform the LOCK and UNLOCK functions.
• If the doors do not LOCK or UNLOCK, refer to Power Door Locks Malfunction (Power Door Locks Malfunction).
2. With all doors locked, insert the key into the driver door key cylinder and turn the key to the UNLOCK position, all doors should perform the UNLOCK function.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Disconnect the harness connector at the RCDLR.
2. Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the signal circuit terminal 12 and B+.
• If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to ground, if the circuit tests normal, test or replace the driver door lock switch.
3. Insert the key into the driver door key cylinder and turn the key to the UNLOCK position, verify that the test lamp is illuminated.
• If the test lamp is not illuminated, test the signal circuit terminal 12 for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the driver door lock switch.
4. If all circuits tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver door lock switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position.
* RHD signal terminal A and ground terminal C
* LHD signal terminal D and ground terminal B
• If not the specified value, replace the driver door lock switch.
3. Test for less than 2 ohm between the terminals listed below with the switch in the Unlock position.
* RHD signal terminal A and ground terminal C
* LHD signal terminal D and ground terminal B
• If greater than the specified range, replace the driver door lock switch.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
