Engine Replacement




Engine Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
2. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement - Rear (Intake Manifold Cover Replacement - Rear).
3. Disconnect the fuel feed and evaporative emission (EVAP) lines.
4. Discharge the air conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the front tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement () for the 6L45/6L50/6L80/6L90 transmission or Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement) for the Aisin AY6 transmission or Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement) for the Tremec 6-speed transmission.




8. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Cooling System Draining and Filling).




9. Drain the engine oil from the oil pan. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Install the drain plugs to the oil pan and tighten.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the air cleaner resonator outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement).
13. Tie the radiator/condenser to the body.
14. Disconnect the booster vacuum hose.
15. Disconnect the A/C lines from the compressor and reposition.
16. Disconnect the coolant overflow and air bleed hoses from the water outlet.
17. Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump.
18. Disconnect the heater core hoses. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (Radiator Hose).
19. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (Radiator Hose).
20. Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (Radiator Hose).
21. Disconnect all necessary engine harness electrical connectors. Refer to Powertrain Component Views (Powertrain Component Views) and Harness Routing Views (Harness Locations).
22. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
23. Lower the frame with the engine still attached. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).




24. Remove the engine mount nuts and remove the engine from the crossmember.
25. Transfer components as required. Refer to the appropriate procedures.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the engine.




2. Install the engine to the crossmember.
3. Install the frame with the engine still attached. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement () for the 6L45/6L50/6L80/6L90 transmission or Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement) for the Aisin AY6 transmission or Transmission Replacement (Transmission Replacement) for the Tremec 6-speed transmission.
5. Install all necessary engine harness electrical connectors. Refer to Powertrain Component Views (Powertrain Component Views) and Harness Routing Views (Harness Locations).
6. Install the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (Radiator Hose).
7. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (Radiator Hose).
8. Connect the power steering lines to the pump.
9. Connect the coolant overflow and air bleed hoses to the water outlet.
10. Connect the A/C lines to the compressor and reposition.
11. Connect the booster vacuum hose.
12. Install the air cleaner resonator outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement)
13. Add engine coolant to the system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Cooling System Draining and Filling).
14. Charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
15. Connect the fuel feed and EVAP lines.
16. Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement - Rear (Intake Manifold Cover Replacement - Rear).
17. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
18. Road test the vehicle when done.
