Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement
Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Place drain pans under the vehicle.
Caution: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.
Note: Introducing too much air into the power steering system will increase the amount of time required to bleed the system. Maintain the fluid level during this procedure.
3. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose (2) from the steering gear (1). Plug the steering gear outlet port. Cap the power steering gear outlet hose.
Caution: Caution should be taken when trying to remove the power steering oil cooler hoses from the power steering oil cooler. Applying excessive force or pulling on the port could cause the port to break off and warrant a complete replacement of the assembly.
4. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose (1) from the power steering fluid cooler inlet port (3) on the air conditioning condenser. Cap the power steering fluid cooler inlet port.
5. Remove the 3 bolts from the 3 brackets (4) on the power steering gear outlet hose.
6. Remove the power steering gear outlet hose from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Cap the power steering gear end of the power steering gear outlet hose.
2. Position the power steering gear outlet hose on the front frame.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the 3 bolts to the 3 brackets (4) on the power steering gear outlet hose (1). Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
4. Remove the cap from the power steering fluid cooler inlet port (3). Connect the power steering gear outlet hose to the power steering fluid cooler inlet port.
5. Remove the cap from the power steering gear outlet hose (2). When fluid begins to flow from the hose, cover the end of the hose with your finger. Ensure the O-ring seal is on the hose and is in good condition.
6. Remove the plug from the steering gear outlet port and quickly connect the power steering gear outlet hose to the steering gear. Tighten the fitting to 34 Nm (25 lb ft).
7. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
8. Remove the drain pans.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
