Condition
Some customers may comment on an accessory drive belt moan, growl, groan or whine noise or even a belt chirp noise that may be present when the engine A/C compressor cycles at moderate to high head pressures at engine Idle and throughout the RPM range.
Correction
Important
Vehicle built after March 2010 already have the new belt installed at the time of production and should not be changed.
An improved accessory drive belt, P/N 12639035, has been introduced that provides improve durability and features that reduce noise. This new belt features a polyester cord, to reduce the stiffness over the current production belt. This belt significantly reduces this condition. Vehicles built after March 2010 already have the new polyester belt and should not be changed.
1. Verify that the vehicle has this condition.
2. Replace the accessory drive belt with P/N 12639035. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in SI.
3. Verify the condition is corrected.
4. If the condition is still present, refer to Noise Diagnosis - Air Conditioning (A/C) System in SI.
Important
If the belt is being replaced for failure due to shredding/fatigue, inspect between the front cover seal and the harmonic balancer for remaining pieces of belt material. Shredded fragments can make their way into the engine by means of threading belt fibers and then into the front seal and engine oil pan.
