# 09-08-49-007: Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Squeak and Rattle Noise (Install Anti-Squeak Fil Tape and Adhesive-Backed Flocking Material) - (May 4, 2009)

Subject: Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Squeak and Rattle Noise (Install Anti-Squeak Film Tape and Adhesive-Backed Flocking Material)

Models: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Condition

Some customers may comment on a squeak type noise coming from the trim plate surrounding the main instrument cluster. This may be accompanied by a rattle in the same area.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the cluster trim plate mounting tab making contact with the front of the instrument panel material and the instrument cluster lens.

Correction

Use the following steps to install adhesive-backed anti-squeak film tape to the cluster trim plate mounting tabs and adhesive-backed flocking material to the right side of the trim plate. This will isolate the mounting tabs from the instrument panel and cluster lens.

1. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Replacement in SI.

2. Locate the instrument panel cluster trim plate lower mounting tabs as shown.

3. Prepare two 12 mm x 40 mm (1/2 in x 1-3/4 in) pieces of adhesive-backed anti-squeak film tape material, such as *Kent Industries # KT13512, or the equivalent.

4. Install the material to the two lower mounting tabs of the cluster trim plate as shown.

5. Locate the mounting tab strengthening rib positioned on the right side of the cluster trim plate (note that the plate is turned upside down for photographic purposes).

6. Prepare a 10 mm x 25 mm (13/32 in x 1 in) piece of adhesive-backed flocking material, such as Kent Industries* # KT13485, or the equivalent.

7. Install the flocking material to the trim plate strenghtening rib in the area shown (note that the plate is turned upside down for photographic purposes).

8. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Replacement in SI.
