DTC Descriptors
DTC 3003-305C
- Passenger Occupant Classification Sensor Circuit
Circuit/System Description
The passenger presence system (PPS) is used to monitor the pressure profile of any occupant that is sitting in the front outboard passenger seat and communicates the profile classification to the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). The SDM will either enable or suppress the deployment of the passenger frontal airbag module based on the profile classification of the occupant. If the PPS detects DTC 300A, 301A, 303A-303E, 305A-305C or 3003-3059 within itself, the PPS will then communicate to the SDM through a dedicated serial data circuit that a PPS fault is present. The SDM will set DTC B0081 indicating a problem within the PPS and suppress the deployment of the passenger frontal airbag module and illuminate the AIR BAG indicator.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PPS has detected an internal fault.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The PPS will set a DTC, and then communicate with the SDM.
* The SDM will set DTC B0081.
* The SDM will disable the passenger frontal air bag module deployment loop.
* The PPS will illuminate the passenger air bag status OFF indicator.
* The SDM requests the instrument cluster to illuminate the AIR BAG warning indicator.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Testing
Note: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
* PPS module
* PPS wiring harness connector
1. Verify that DTC 2001-2054 or 202A-202E is not set.
• If the DTC is set, refer to DTC 2001-2054 or 202A-202E (DTC 2001).
2. Verify that DTC 3003-3059 is not set.
• If the DTC is set, replace the passenger presence detection sensor.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
