Steering Column Jacket Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement (Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement).
2. Remove the steering column and jacket assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
3. Use a vise in order to hold the steering column. Clamp on the lower mounting bolt hole with the bolt hole sleeve in the horizontal position.
4. Ensure the steering wheel alignment mark at the top of the steering column jacket shaft is in the 12 o'clock position.
5. Remove the 3 steering column jacket bolts.
6. Remove the steering column jacket from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Clean the steering column shaft splines with a lint-free towel. Ensure the steering column shaft splines are free of dirt and debris.
Note: A new steering column jacket comes with lubricant.
2. Apply 2 grams (0.07 oz) of lubricant to the steering column shaft splines.
3. Position the new steering column jacket on the steering column.
4. Ensure the steering wheel alignment mark at the top of the steering column jacket shaft is in the 12 o'clock position.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
5. Install the steering column bolts and tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb in).
6. Remove the steering column and jacket assembly from the vise.
7. Install the steering column and jacket assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
8. Install the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement (Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement).
