Condition

Some customers may comment about an oil leak. Upon inspection, a technician may find that oil appears to be coming from the front crankshaft seal located in the front engine cover (timing chain cover).

Correction

Important
DO NOT replace the harmonic balancer as part of this procedure. Part reviews by engineering have established that harmonic balancer replacement is unnecessary. Only replace the harmonic balancer if deep seal wear is found.

Replace the crankshaft front oil seal with new P/N 14090906 that features an improved wiper seal lip and spring tension. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement in SI. Remember to use seal installer tool EN-48869.
