DTC B1452

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using the diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptors
DTC B1452
- Passenger Air Bag Disable Switch Both Open Fault

Circuit/System Description

When the ignition switch is turned to ON, the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) will perform turn-on test to diagnose critical malfunctions within SDM itself.

The SDM continuously checks the passenger air bag disable switch position switch and circuit defect by letting the regular voltage flow through the disable switch circuit and verifying the current.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is between 9-16 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

An open or short in wiring between SDM and the passenger air bag disable switch.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Testing

Note: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.

* Passenger air bag disable switch
* SDM
* Passenger air bag disable switch wiring harness connector
* SDM wiring harness connector

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the passenger air bag disable switch and the SDM.
2. Ignition ON, test for less than 1 V between circuit terminals listed below and ground:

* SDM terminal 60
* SDM terminal 56

If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.

3. Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminals listed below and ground:

* SDM terminal 60
* SDM terminal 56

If less than the specified value, test circuits for a short to ground.

4. Test for less than 2 ohm between the control circuit terminals listed below:

* Terminal 60 at the SDM harness connector and terminal 3 at the passenger air bag disable switch
* Terminal 56 at the SDM harness connector and terminal 1 at the passenger air bag disable switch
* Terminal 3 and terminal 2 at the passenger air bag disable switch

If less than the specified value, test the control circuits for a short to ground.

5. If all circuits test normal, replace the passenger air bag disable switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
