Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
When the rear compartment lid release switch is pushed, the contact within the switch closes allowing B+ voltage to flow through the rear compartment lid latch release actuator control circuit causing the actuator to release the liftgate/trunk lid. The rear compartment lid latch release actuator is continuously grounded. The actuator may also release the liftgate/trunk lid by a RELEASE command from the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR).

Circuit/System Verification
Doors unlocked, command the rear compartment lid latch release actuator to UNLATCH by pressing the rear compartment lid release switch. The rear compartment lid release actuator should release the liftgate/trunk lid.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid latch release actuator.
4. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
5. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 2 and ground.
6. Ignition ON, command the trunk/liftgate release by pressing the trunk release button on the remote keyless entry transmitter. The test lamp should illuminate while commanding the RELEASE state.
• If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
7. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
8. Ignition ON, command the trunk/liftgate release by pressing the rear compartment lid release switch. The test lamp should illuminate while commanding the RELEASE state
• If the test lamp is always OFF, test or replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test or replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid latch release actuator.
Component Testing
Rear Compartment Lid Latch Release Actuator
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment latch lid release actuator.
2. Install a 10A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 2 and 12 V. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 1 and ground. Verify the rear compartment latch lid release actuator activates.
• If the actuator does not perform as specified, replace the rear compartment latch lid release actuator.
Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the B+ terminal 2 and the control terminal 1 with the switch in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
3. Test for less than 2.0 ohm between the B+ terminal 2 and the control terminal 1 with the switch in the closed position.
• If greater than the specified range, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.
Repair Instructions
