Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.




2. Disconnect the pressure line pipe (1) from the outlet connection on the power steering pump.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing, if necessary. Refer to the applicable procedure:

* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.2L (LMU) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.4L (LDT) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.6L (LXT) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.6L (LXV) engine




4. Remove the pressure pipe retaining clamp bolt (1) near the engine cylinder head.




5. Remove the return pipe retaining clamp nuts (1, 2) near the left side body panel.




6. Disconnect the pressure and return inlet pipe from the steering gear.




7. Disconnect the return line hose from the reservoir.
8. Remove the power steering pump pressure line and the return line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the power steering pump pressure line and the return line in the vehicle.




2. Connect the return line hose to the reservoir.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Connect the pressure and return line inlet pipe to the steering gear. Tighten the steering gear inlet pipe fitting to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).




4. Install the pressure pipe retaining clamp bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




5. Install the return pipe retaining clamp nuts (1, 2). Tighten the clamps to 8 Nm (70 lb in).




6. Connect the pressure line pipe (1) to the outlet connection on the power steering pump. Tighten the union nut to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
7. If you removed the air cleaner housing, install the air cleaner housing. Refer to the applicable procedure:

* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.2L (LMU) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.4L (LDT) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.6L (LXT) engine
* Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair)for the 1.6L (LXV) engine

8. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
