Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).




3. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector (1).




4. Remove the CMP sensor to engine front cover retaining bolt (1).
5. Remove the CMP sensor (2) from the engine front cover.
6. Remove the CMP sensor O-ring (3) from the CMP sensor and discard.
Discard the O-ring.

Installation Procedure





Note: Install a NEW O-ring to the camshaft sensor

Note: Before installing the camshaft sensor, apply a small amount of clean motor oil to the O-ring (3).

1. Install a NEW O-ring (3) to the CMP sensor.
2. Install the CMP sensor (2) to the engine front cover.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the CMP sensor to engine front cover retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).




4. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector (1) to wiring harness.
5. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Connect the battery ground cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
7. If re-programming is required, refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning).
