Upper Control Arm Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Support the knuckle with a suitable jack stand.

Note: The rear brake hose does NOT have to be completely removed from the upper control arm. Just remove the rear brake hose form the upper control arm to have enough clearance to remove the upper control arm.

4. Remove the rear brake hose from the upper control arm. Refer to Rear Brake Hose Replacement (LLT) (Rear Brake Hose Replacement)Rear Brake Hose Replacement (LS3, L99) (Rear Brake Hose Replacement).




5. Remove the upper rear control arm bushing bolt (1).




6. Remove upper control arm bolt (2) and nut (1) from the knuckle.




7. Remove the upper control arm bolt (1) and the nut (2) from the frame.




8. Remove the upper control arm (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the upper control arm (1) in the frame and on the knuckle.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the upper control arm bolt (1) and the nut (2) and tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb ft) plus 120 degrees.




3. Install the upper control arm bolt (2) and the nut (1) and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.




4. Install the upper control arm bushing bolt (1) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft) plus 120 degrees.
5. Install the rear brake hose on the upper control arm. Refer to Rear Brake Hose Replacement (LLT) (Rear Brake Hose Replacement)Rear Brake Hose Replacement (LS3, L99) (Rear Brake Hose Replacement).
6. Remove the support from the knuckle.
7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment, if needed. Refer to Rear Camber Adjustment (Rear Camber Adjustment).
