Differential Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Drain the rear differential assembly. Refer to Differential Oil Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
3. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement).
4. Remove the wheel drive shafts from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Support the rear drive axle assembly with a hydraulic jack stand.
6. Remove the vent tube from the rear axle housing.
7. Remove the rear differential mount nut (1) and (2).
8. Remove the front differential mounting nuts (1) and (2).
9. Remove the rear differential assembly (1) from the vehicle
Installation Procedure
1. Position the rear differential assembly (1) in the rear suspension carrier (2).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Install the front differential mounting bolts (2) and (1) nuts.
3. Tighten the nuts (1) to 80 Nm (59 lb ft).
4. Install the rear differential mounting nut (1) and bolt (2).
5. Tighten the nuts (1) to 80 Nm (59 lb ft).
6. Install the wheel drive shafts from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement).
8. Install the vent tube from the rear axle housing.
9. Fill the rear differential with fluid. Refer to Differential Oil Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
10. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
