Steering Column Bracket Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS7 or LS9) (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS3) (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement).
4. Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).




5. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly with the accelerator pedal position sensor.
6. Disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod from the brake pedal.
7. Remove the brake booster mounting nuts.




8. Remove the mounting bolts from the cruise control release switch bracket.
9. Reposition the cruise control release switch and the bracket.




10. Disconnect the master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal.





Note: The following step ensures proper trim fit during installation.

11. Mark the location of the steering column bracket.
12. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.




13. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam.
14. Remove the steering column bracket.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the steering column bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
2. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam. Do NOT tighten the bolts.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.

Tighten both upper and locker bracket bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




4. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal.




5. Position the cruise control release switch and bracket to the steering column bracket.
6. Install the bracket bolts to the cruise control release switch.

Tighten the bracket bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).




7. Install the brake booster nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 29 Nm (21 lb ft).

8. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal.
9. Install the accelerator pedal assembly with the accelerator pedal position sensor.
10. Install the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement).
11. Install the steering column to the steering column bracket. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
12. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement (Console Replacement).
13. Install the I/P assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement (Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement).
14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS7 or LS9) (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS3) (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
