Rear Knuckle: Service and Repair




Knuckle Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor harness connector.
4. Disconnect the ESC position sensor link. Refer to Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (ZR1) (Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (ZR1))Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (Without ZR1) (Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (Without ZR1)).
5. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56))Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J57)).
6. Separate the outer tie rod end from the suspension knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement (Rear Suspension).
7. Remove the spindle nut retainer, the spindle nut and the washer. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).




8. Separate the suspension knuckle from the upper control arm. Refer to Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W/O FE4, FE5) (Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W/O FE4, FE5))Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W FE4, FE5) (Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W FE4, FE5)).
9. Separate the suspension knuckle from the lower control arm ball joint stud. Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement).
10. Remove the suspension knuckle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the suspension knuckle to the lower control arm ball joint stud. Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement).
2. Install the suspension knuckle ball joint stud to the upper control arm. Refer to Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W/O FE4, FE5) (Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W/O FE4, FE5))Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W FE4, FE5) (Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (W FE4, FE5)).
3. Install the spindle nut, washer and retainer. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Install the outer tie rod end to the suspension knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod Replacement (Rear Suspension).
5. Install the brake rotor and caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement) and Front Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56) (Front Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9, J55, J56))Front Brake Rotor Replacement (J57) (Front Brake Rotor Replacement (J57)).




6. Connect the wheel speed sensor harness connector.
7. Connect the ESC position sensor link. 8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Perform a rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement (Wheel Alignment Measurement).
