77. Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation




Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation (LS3 with Z52 Option, LS7, LS9)

Special Tools
* EN-47812 - Installer Bolt
* J 41478 - Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer - for models without a keyed crankshaft
* J 41478-1A - Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer Cone - for models with or without a keyed crankshaft
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Special Tools)





Note:
* Do not lubricate the oil seal sealing surface.
* Do not use the crankshaft front oil seal again.

1. Lubricate the outer edge of the oil seal (140) with clean engine oil.
2. Lubricate the front cover oil seal bore with clean engine oil.




3. For models with a keyed crankshaft, install the crankshaft front oil seal (140) using the following procedure:

1. Assemble the EN-47812 - bolt (1), nut, washer, the J 41478-1A - installer cone (2), and oil seal, and install into the end of the crankshaft.
2. Use a wrench and hold the hex on the installer bolt.
3. Use a second wrench and rotate the installer nut clockwise until the seal bottoms in the cover bore.
4. Remove the tool and inspect the oil seal for proper installation. The oil seal should be installed evenly and completely into the front cover bore.

4. For models without a keyed crankshaft, install the crankshaft front oil seal (140) using the following procedure:

Note: Either J 41478 - installer guide or J 41478-1A - installer cone will install the seal on models without a keyed crankshaft.

1. Assemble the EN-47812 - bolt (1), nut, washer, the J 41478 - installer guide (2) or the J 41478-1A - installer cone (2), and oil seal, and install into the end of the crankshaft.
2. Use a wrench and hold the hex on the installer bolt.
3. Use a second wrench and rotate the installer nut clockwise until the seal bottoms in the cover bore.
4. Remove the tool and inspect the oil seal for proper installation. The oil seal should be installed evenly and completely into the front cover bore.
