Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The evaporative emission (EVAP) system stores fuel vapors in order to reduce the amount of fuel vapors into the atmosphere. The fuel tank pressure sensor is used for EVAP system diagnostics. The fuel tank pressure sensor is a transducer that varies resistance according to changes in fuel tank pressure. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the fuel tank pressure sensor signal in order to detect vacuum decay and excess vacuum during the EVAP system diagnostic test. The ECM supplies a 5 V reference and a low reference circuit to the fuel tank pressure sensor.
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The ignition is ON or the engine is running.
* The DTCs run continuously once the above condition is met.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P0452 00
The ECM detects the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage is less than 0.2 V for greater than 8 s.
P0453 00
The ECM detects the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage is greater than 4.85 V for greater than 8 s.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTCs P0452 00 and P0453 00 are Type B DTCs
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTCs P0452 00 and P0453 00 are Type B DTCs

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify DTC P0641 00 is not set.
• If DTC P0641 00 is set, refer to DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, or P06A3 (P0641)
2. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor voltage parameter. The B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor voltage should be between 1.3-1.7 V.
3. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the freeze frame/failure records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.
2. Ignition OFF for 1 min, test for less than 5 ohm between the low reference circuit terminal A and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal C and ground.
• If less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
• If greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
4. Verify the scan tool Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor parameter is less than 1 V.
• If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
5. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the 5 V reference circuit terminal C. Verify the scan tool Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor parameter is greater than 4.8 V.
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.
