DTC Descriptor
DTC C0896 00
- Device Voltage Range Performance

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The power steering control module (PSCM) has a discrete battery positive voltage supply circuit. The PSCM monitors the voltage level on this circuit to ensure the power steering system has adequate voltage levels to perform the system functions.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON, Engine ON

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Power steering system voltage is 9-10 volts for at least one second.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC C0896 00 is stored in memory.
* Steering assist is slightly reduced.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* A current DTC will clear when power steering system voltage is greater than 10 volts for more than one second.
* A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles with the power steering voltage greater than 10 volts.

Diagnostic Aids

* Inspect the 80-amp EPS fuse of the underhood fuse block for an open.
* Inspect for poor connections at the underhood fuse block stud ring terminal.
* Inspect for poor connections at ground terminal G103 of the PSCM.
* Inspect for poor connections at the PSCM.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the PSCM.
2. Test for less than 1ohm between the ground circuit terminal A and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PSCM.

3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal B and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

4. If all circuits test normal, replace the PSCM.
