DTC C0897
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provide an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptor
DTC C0897 00
- Device Voltage Range Performance
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The power steering control module (PSCM) receives a power mode message from the body control module (BCM) via a serial data circuit. When a power mode ON message is received, the PSCM compares it to the state of its igniting voltage circuit.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The PSCM power mode message and the state of the ignition 1 circuit do not agree.
* The PSCM ignition voltage circuit is shorted to ground, or open.
* DTCs U2100, U2105, U2107, or U2109 are not set.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* DTC C0897 00 is stored in memory.
* The DIC displays the POWER STEERING warning message.
* Steering assist is present for the remainder of the ignition cycle but will not be present on the following ignition ON cycle if the malfunction still exists.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* A current DTC will clear when the malfunction is no longer present.
* A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
* Inspect the 2-amp EPS fuse of the BCM for an open.
* Inspect for a poor connection at the BCM.
* Inspect for a poor connection at the PSCM.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the PSCM.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 8 and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
3. If all circuits test normal, replace the PSCM.
