Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

When the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACCY position, or retained accessory power is enabled and the driver or passenger window switch is pressed in the down position, voltage is applied to the appropriate window motor causing that window to open. When the driver or passenger window switch is pulled in the up position, voltage is applied to the appropriate window motor in the opposite direction causing that window to close.

The driver window switch contains a rear window lockout switch which disconnects the voltage supply to both rear window switches, disabling them. The left rear and right rear switches on the driver window switch will continue to function the rear windows normally.

Diagnostic Aids

The power window fuse may open when all windows are simultaneously commanded UP and DOWN repeatedly by using all four switches. This will cause the windows to become inoperative with no trouble found.

2. Command each passenger and rear window UP and DOWN using the appropriate switches on the S79D window switch-driver and by using the 79P window switch-passenger, S79LR window switch-left rear and S79RR window switch-right rear. Each window should perform the UP and DOWN functions from each switch.

If the passenger window does not perform as specified, refer to Front Passenger Window Malfunction.
If either rear window does not perform as specified, refer to Rear Window Malfunction.
