Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) controls the theft deterrent alarm by grounding the content theft PCB relay coil control circuit. When the BCM enters the content theft deterrent alarm mode, the Content Theft PCB relay coil control circuit is grounded. The Content Theft PCB relay will then provide voltage to the theft deterrent alarm control circuit, sounding the theft deterrent alarm.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The system voltage is at least 9 V and no more than 16 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3916 01

The BCM detects a short to voltage on the content theft relay control circuit.

B3916 02

The BCM detects a short to ground on the content theft relay control circuit.

B3916 04

The BCM detects an open on the content theft relay control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

Theft deterrent alarm output is disabled

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* A current DTC is cleared when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present.

* A history DTC will clear after 40 malfunction free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the X50A underhood fuse block.

2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 6 and B+.

3. Completely lower the driver door window and close all vehicle doors. Arm the content theft deterrent system by locking the doors with the keyless entry transmitter. Wait 30 seconds for the content theft deterrent system to arm.

4. Without disarming the system, reach in through the open driver window and open the driver door.

5. Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF.

If the test lamp is always ON

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 BCM.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance, replace the K9 BCM.

If the test lamp is always OFF

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 BCM, ignition ON.

2. Test for less than 1 V between the control circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V.

3. Test for less than 2 ohms on the control circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance on the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K9 BCM.

If the test lamp is turns ON and OFF

6. Ignition OFF, connect the X2 harness connector at the X50A underhood fuse block. Disconnect the harness connector at the P4 security siren.

7. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.

If 10 ohms or greater

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Test for less than 2 ohms on the control circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance on the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

If less than 10 ohms

8. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and ground.

9. Completely lower the driver door window and close all vehicle doors. Arm the content theft deterrent system by locking the door with the keyless entry transmitter. Wait 30 seconds for the content theft deterrent system to arm.

10. Without disarming the system, reach in through the open driver window and open the driver door.

11. Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF.

If the test lamp is always ON

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the X50A underhood fuse block.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance, replace the X50A underhood fuse block.

If the test lamp is always OFF

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the X50A underhood fuse block, ignition ON.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the X50A underhood fuse block.

If the test lamp is turns ON and OFF

12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the P4 security siren.
