Folding Top Side Rail Link Replacement
Removal Procedure
Note: Perform the following procedure on the side being serviced only.
1. Remove the folding top and frame from the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Frame Replacement Procedures.
2. Place the folding top on a clean and dry surface when being serviced.
3. Remove the folding top side front weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Front Weatherstrip Replacement.
4. Remove the folding top side rear weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement.
Note: Do Not remove the number 1 bow garnish molding or latch linkage from the number 1 bow.
5. Remove the folding top front edge screws (1) and retainer (2) from the number 1 bow.
6. Remove the folding top side rail garnish molding assembly. Refer to Folding Top Side Rail Garnish Molding Replacement Folding Top Side Rail Garnish Molding Replacement.
7. Remove the number 1 bow stop screws (1).
Note: The folding top cover slides off the number 1 bow stop retaining edge.
8. Remove the number 1 bow stop (2) from the folding top retainer (1).
Note: Mark the direction of the side tension cable spring to the number 1 bow for reinstalling.
9. Remove side tension cable spring screw (1) from the number 1 bow.
10. Remove side tension cable spring (1) from the number 1 bow (2).
Note: The folding top cover is pulled over the retaining edge located on the front edge of the number 1 bow.
Starting at one end, pull upward releasing the top from the retaining edge of the number 1 bow.
11. Remove the folding top cover (1) from the number 1 bow (2) front edge.
12. Loosen the headliner on the side being serviced. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
13. Remove the screws (1) that attach the side tension straps (2) to the side rail.
14. Pull the headliner (1) loose from the number 1, 2 ,3 upper, 3 lower and 4 bows (2), to expose the pins and rivets in the bows.
15. Place a protective cover under each bow when drilling out the rivets to catch the metal shavings.
Warning
Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale to size of the drill. Do Not over size the hole. The rivet hole does not go all the way through the bow. If the rivets hole is drilled through, apply a layer of cloth tape over the hole before installing the folding top cover.
16. Do this from the left side only (Driver Side), drill out two rivets (2) from the number 3, upper, 3 lower and the 4 bow from the side being serviced only to this dimension 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in), then pull the headliner and the folding top cover loose from the folding top frame.
17. Remove the folding top counterbalance link. Refer to Folding Top Counterbalance Link Replacement Folding Top Counterbalance Link Replacement.
Note: The number 2 bow bracket pin is welded in place.
Note: Take note the placement of the number 2 bow bushing and washer for reinstalling.
18. Place the number 1 bow straight upward to access the clip (1) on the number 2 bracket.
Remove the clip (1) from the retaining pin (2) that retains the number 2 bow bracket (3) to the folding top side rail link.
19. Remove the cloth with the metal shavings from the folding top cover.
20. Remove the clips (1) and pins (2) from the number 1 bow.
21. Remove the clips (1) and pins (2) from the folding top side rail link and main pivot bracket.
22. Remove the folding top side rail link (1) from the top frame.
Installation Procedure
1. The folding top must be placed top side down on a clean and dry surface.
2. Install the folding top side rail link (1) to the top frame.
Note: Take note the placement of the bow bushing and washer.
3. Install the pins (2) and clips (1) to the folding top side rail link and main pivot bracket.
Note: Take note the placement of the bow bushing and washer.
4. Install the pins (2) and clips (1) to the number 1 bow.
5. Install the number 2 bracket to the number 2 bow end.
Note: Take note the placement of the number 2 bow bushing and washer.
6. Place the number 1 bow straight upward to access the pin for the clip (1) on the side rail link.
Install the clip (1) to the retaining pin (2) that retains the number 2 bow bracket to the folding top side rail link.
Note: The replacement rivets MUST be steel/stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Always check scale to size of the drill. Do Not over size the hole. The rivet hole does not go all the way through the bow. If the rivets hole is drilled through, apply a layer of cloth tape over the hole before installing the folding top cover.
7. Do this from the left side only (Driver Side), install two rivets (1) to each end of the number 3, upper, 3 lower and the 4 bow, the dimension is 4.79 mm (3/16 in) (10.9 mm (0.4.2 in), pull the headliner and folding top cover to the side rail link.
8. Install the folding top counterbalance link. Refer to Folding Top Counterbalance Link Replacement Folding Top Counterbalance Link Replacement.
9. Install the screws (1) that attaches the side tension straps (2) to the side rail.
Note: The folding top cover slides over a retaining edge located on the front edge of the number 1 bow.
10. Install the folding top cover (1) to the number 1 bow (2) front edge.
11. Install the side tension cable spring (1) to the number 1 bow, refer to step 9 in the removal procedure.
12. Install the side tension cable spring screw (1).
Note: The folding top cover slides over the retaining edge on the number 1 bow stop.
13. Install the folding top cover to the number 1 bow stop (1), left and right side.
14. Install the number 1 bow stop screws (1), left and right side.
15. Install the screws (1) to the front edge of the folding top cover retainer (2).
16. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.
17. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.
18. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.
