Front Brake Caliper Hardware Replacement (LFX)
Removal Procedure
Warning:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2).
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed. Do not reuse the brake caliper guide pin bolts.
3. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pin, remove and discard the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
Caution:
Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
4. Remove the brake caliper (1) and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
5. Remove the outer brake pad (1).
6. Remove the inner brake pad (2).
7. Remove the brake pad springs (1).
8. Remove the upper brake caliper guide pin (1).
9. Remove the upper guide pin seal (2).
Note:
The lower brake caliper guide pin is equipped with a bushing.
10. Remove the lower brake caliper guide pin (1).
11. Remove the lower guide pin seal (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Inspect the brake caliper guide pins, seals and brake pad springs for damage and/or corrosion. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection.
2. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant the brake caliper guide pin.
Note:
The lower brake caliper guide pin is equipped with a bushing.
3. Install the lower brake caliper guide pin (1) to the guide pin seal (2).
4. Ensure the guide pin seal is fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper guide pin.
5. Install the lower guide pin and seal to the brake caliper bracket.
6. Ensure the guide pin seal is fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper bracket.
7. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant the brake caliper guide pin.
8. Install the upper brake caliper guide pin (1) to the guide pin seal (2).
9. Ensure the guide pin seal is fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper guide pin.
10. Install the upper guide pin and seal to the brake caliper bracket.
11. Ensure the guide pin seal is fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper bracket.
12. Install the brake pad springs (1).
13. Install the outer brake pad (1).
14. Install the inner brake pad (2).
15. Install the brake caliper (1) to the caliper bracket.
Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
16. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install 2 new brake caliper guide pin bolts (1) and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
17. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2).
