Differential Replacement (250 mm Axle)
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Drain the rear differential assembly. Refer to Differential Oil Replacement (195/218 mm Axle) Differential Oil Replacement (195/218 mm Axle)Differential Oil Replacement (250 mm Axle) Differential Oil Replacement (250 mm Axle).
3. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (195/218mm Axle) Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (195/218mm Axle)Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (250mm Axle) Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (250mm Axle).
4. Remove the wheel drive shafts from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement Service and Repair.
Note: Insert plugs or cover to coolant lines and fittings to ensure that the fluid does not become contaminated.
5. Remove the rear differential cooler lines.
* For the differential oil cooler inlet hose/pipe to rear transmission cooler pipe, refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose/Pipe to Rear Transmission Cooler Pipe (LSA) .
* For the differential oil cooler outlet hose/pipe to rear transmission cooler pipe, refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Differential Oil Cooler Outlet Hose/Pipe to Rear Transmission Cooler Pipe (LSA) .
6. Support the rear drive axle assembly with a hydraulic jack stand.
7. Remove the rear differential mount nut (2) and bolt (1).
8. Loosen and reposition the fuel tank shield to allow the removal of one differential mounting bolt.
9. Remove the front differential mounting nuts (1) and the bolts (2).
10. Lower the differential enough to disconnect the vent hose from the rear axle housing.
11. Remove the rear differential assembly (2) from the rear suspension support (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Position the rear differential assembly (2) in the rear suspension support (2).
2. Raise the differential enough to connect the vent hose to the rear axle housing.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
3. Install the front differential mounting bolts (2) and (1) nuts.
4. Tighten the nuts (1) to 80 Nm (59 lb ft).
5. Install the rear differential mounting nut (2) and bolt (1).
6. Tighten the nut (1) to 80 Nm (59 lb ft).
7. Reposition the fuel tank shield and tighten the nuts until secure.
8. Install the wheel drive shafts from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Install the rear differential cooler lines.
* For the differential oil cooler inlet hose/pipe to rear transmission cooler pipe, refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose/Pipe to Rear Transmission Cooler Pipe (LSA) .
* For the differential oil cooler outlet hose/pipe to rear transmission cooler pipe, refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Replacement - Differential Oil Cooler Outlet Hose/Pipe to Rear Transmission Cooler Pipe (LSA) .
10. Install the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (195/218mm Axle) Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (195/218mm Axle)Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (250mm Axle) Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (250mm Axle).
11. Install the vent tube from the rear axle housing.
12. Fill the rear differential with fluid. Refer to Differential Oil Replacement (195/218 mm Axle) Differential Oil Replacement (195/218 mm Axle)Differential Oil Replacement (250 mm Axle) Differential Oil Replacement (250 mm Axle).
13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
