Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Bracket Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning.


1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.

2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement.

3. Remove the outlet duct from the right side window defogger.





4. Release the I/P harness retainer from the passenger SIR bracket.

5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the SIR module electrical connector.

6. Release the electrical connector retainer from the SIR bracket.

7. Disconnect the SIR module electrical connector.

Note:
The following steps are important to ensure proper trim fit during installation.

8. Mark the location of the knee bolster bracket.

9. Remove the bolts (3) retaining the knee bolster bracket to the center support bracket.

10. Remove the air distribution duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement Air Distributor Duct Replacement.

11. Mark the location of the SIR bracket.

12. Remove the bolts (2) mounting the SIR bracket to the I/P lower support beam.

13. Remove the bolts (1) mounting the SIR bracket to the I/P upper support beam.

14. Remove the SIR bracket.





15. Mark the location of the SIR module in the SIR bracket.

16. Remove the SIR module retaining nuts (3).

17. Remove the SIR module (1) from the SIR bracket (2).





18. Remove the mounting bolts from the knee bolster bracket.

19. Remove the knee bolster bracket.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the knee bolster bracket into position as marked prior to removal.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the retaining bolts which secure the knee bolster bracket to the SIR bracket.

Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).





3. Install the SIR module (1) to the SIR bracket (2) as marked prior to removal.

4. Install the SIR module retaining nuts (3).

Tighten the nuts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).





5. Install the SIR bracket into position as marked prior to removal.

6. Install the bolts (1, 2) which secure the SIR bracket to the I/P upper and lower support beams.

Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

7. Install the air distribution duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement Air Distributor Duct Replacement.

8. Position the knee bolster bracket to the center support bracket as marked prior to removal.

9. Install the bolts (3) which secure the knee bolster bracket to the center support bracket.

Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).

10. Connect the SIR module electrical connector.

11. Secure the electrical connector retainer to the SIR bracket.

12. Install the CPA to the SIR module electrical connector.

13. Secure the I/P harness retainer to the SIR bracket.

14. Install the outlet duct to the right side window defogger.

15. Install the I/P assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement.

16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
