Passenger Presence System Rezeroing
Passenger Presence System Rezeroing
Introduction
The Passenger Presence Module is a calibrated system that requires rezeroing anytime the seat cushion trim attachments have been removed or Passenger Presence Module has been replaced. The procedures below are designed to assist in the rezeroing of the Passenger Presence Module. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely. For further information regarding the Passenger Presence Module refer to SIR System Description and Operation Description and Operation.
Note: The following procedures must be followed:
1. Read this procedure carefully and completely.
2. The Passenger Presence Module will not function properly if the Passenger Presence Module rezeroing procedure is not performed.
3. Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after successfully completing the rezeroing procedure to ensure the system is functioning properly.
Passenger Presence Module Rezeroing Procedure
Note: Before rezeroing the Passenger Presence Module, the front passenger seat must be completely empty of all items. The presence of any items on the front passenger seat will affect the calibration and operation of the Passenger Presence Module.
Note: When rezeroing the Passenger Presence Module, the Instrument Cluster and dash lights will begin dimming ON and OFF. This is normal operation during the rezeroing procedure and does not indicate additional system faults.
1. Empty the front passenger seat.
2. Verify that all SIR and Passenger Presence Module components, connectors, and connector position assurances (CPAs) are properly connected and mounted.
3. Install a scan tool.
4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Note: All SIR and Passenger Presence Module DTCs must be cleared before rezeroing the Passenger Presence Module. The presence of current or history DTCs will prevent the Passenger Presence Module from rezeroing and may set additional DTCs.
5. Use the scan tool in order to clear the SIR and Passenger Presence Module DTCs.
6. With a scan tool, request the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure.
7. Initiate the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure. The Passenger Presence Module will illuminate both PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators until this procedure has been completed.
* When the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure has been successfully completed, the Passenger Presence Module will display the current system status by using either the PASSENGER AIR BAG ON or OFF indicator.
* If the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure was unsuccessful, both PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and OFF indicators will alternate from no illumination to full illumination in 1 second intervals for 5 seconds. The Passenger Presence Module will treat an unsuccessful rezero attempt as a system fault.
8. If the Passenger Presence Sensor Learn procedure was unsuccessful, repeat this procedure. Due to the communication status between the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module and the Passenger Presence Module, this procedure may have to be repeated until a successful rezero attempt has been achieved.
9. After the Passenger Presence Module has been successfully rezeroed, perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests.
