Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Telescoping)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the steering column tilt wheel release lever knob from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Wheel Release Lever Replacement Steering Column Tilt Wheel Release Lever Replacement.

2. Remove the driver knee bolster panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement Service and Repair.

3. Disconnect the steering column telescope switch connector from the steering column wiring harness.




4. Separate the retaining tabs on the lower steering column trim cover (1) from the upper steering column trim cover and steering column housing trim extension cover (2).

5. Remove the straps securing the steering column telescope switch wires to the steering column wire harness.

6. If replacing the steering column trim cover assembly, perform the following steps:

1. Remove the steering column telescope switch wires from the lower steering column trim cover, which are routed in clips along the bottom of the steering column trim cover.

2. From the inside of the lower steering column trim cover, push out the steering column telescope switch.

3. Remove the steering column telescope switch and wires from the lower steering column trim cover.

7. Remove the lower steering column trim cover.




8. Separate the upper steering column trim cover (1) tabs from the slots in the steering column housing trim extension cover (2).

9. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (1).

10. Remove the steering column housing trim extension cover assembly (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the steering column housing trim extension cover assembly (2).

2. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) to the steering column housing trim extension cover (2).

3. Verify that the tabs on the upper steering column trim cover (1) are fully engaged with the slots in the steering column housing trim extension cover (2).

4. If replacing the steering column trim cover assembly, perform the following:

1. Install the steering column telescope switch and wires thorough the opening in the lower steering column trim cover.

2. Snap the wiring to the retaining clips in the lower steering column trim cover.

3. Route the switch wires to the steering column telescope switch along the column. Strap the wires.

4. Connect the steering column telescope switch connector to the steering column wiring harness.




5. Install the lower steering column trim cover (1) tabs into the steering column housing trim extension cover (2) and upper steering column trim cover.

6. Verify that the tabs on the lower steering column trim cover (1) are fully engaged in the upper steering column trim cover and the slots in the steering column housing trim extension cover (2).

7. Install the driver knee bolster panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement Service and Repair.

8. Install the steering column tilt wheel release lever knob. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Wheel Release Lever Replacement Steering Column Tilt Wheel Release Lever Replacement.
