Steering Wheel Theft Deterrent Lock Replacement (Telescoping)

Removal Procedure





Warning: Refer to SIR Warning SIR Warning.


1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.

Note: If the steering column connectors are disconnected with the ignition in the ON position, the BCM will enter a fail enable mode and prevent steering column lock operation. The PCM will also inhibit vehicle motion by disabling fuel. To clear the BCM fail enable mode, disconnect the BCM fuse #25 for 15 seconds.

2. Remove the upper and lower steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Manual)Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Telescoping).

3. Remove the wire harness straps (2) from the tilt head assembly (1) and the column.

4. Install J 42640 - steering column lock pin to the steering column.

5. Remove the tilt head assembly. Refer to Steering Column Housing Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Housing Replacement (Telescoping)Steering Column Housing Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Housing Replacement (Manual).

6. Remove the steering wheel theft deterrent.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the steering wheel theft deterrent.

2. Route the wire harness assembly along the steering column jacket assembly.




3. Install the wire harness assembly (1) into the wire harness strap (2).

4. Install the tilt head assembly. Refer to Steering Column Housing Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Housing Replacement (Telescoping)Steering Column Housing Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Housing Replacement (Manual).

5. Remove J 42640 - steering column lock pin from the steering column.

6. Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Manual)Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Telescoping).

7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
