Lower Control Arm Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
3. Remove the lower stabilizer shaft link nut (1).
4. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft link (1) from the lower control arm.
5. Disconnect the electronic suspension front position sensor link from the lower control arm ball stud and position aside, if equipped.
6. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bracket bolt (1) and position the bracket and harness aside.
Note: Position the jack so the lower shock absorber nuts are not obstructed.
7. Support the lower control arm with a post jack.
8. Remove the lower ball joint nut (1).
Note: Adjust the position of the jack so the tool does not contact the ball joint seal.
9. Using the J-43631 - Ball Joint Remover, separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.
10. Support the steering knuckle.
11. Remove the lower shock absorber nuts (1).
12. Remove the lower shock absorber bolts (1).
13. Carefully remove the post jack.
14. Remove the lower control arm nuts (1).
15. Remove the lower control arm adjustment cams (1).
Note: If equipped with RPO Z06 or ZR1, discard the bolts.
16. Remove the lower control arm bolts (1).
17. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the lower control arm to the vehicle.
Note: If equipped with RPO Z06 or ZR1, install new bolts.
2. Install the lower control arm bolts (1).
3. Install the lower control arm adjustment cams (1).
Note: Tighten the lower control arm nuts with the vehicle at ride height during the front wheel alignment.
4. Install, but do not tighten, the lower control arm nuts (1).
Note: Position the jack so the lower shock absorber nuts are not obstructed.
5. Raise the lower control arm to the lower shock absorber mount with a post jack.
6. Install the lower shock absorber bolts (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
7. Install the lower shock absorber nuts (1) and tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
8. Carefully remove the post jack.
9. Position the steering knuckle to the lower control arm ball joint stud.
10. Install the lower ball joint nut (1) and using the EN-45059 - Angle Meter, tighten the nut to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) + 180 degrees.
11. Install the wheel speed sensor harness bracket and bolt (1) to the lower control arm.
12. Connect the electronic suspension front position sensor link to the lower control arm ball stud, if equipped.
13. Install the stabilizer shaft link (1) to the lower control arm.
14. Install the lower stabilizer shaft link nut (1) and using the EN-45059 - Angle Meter, tighten the nut to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) + 30 degrees.
15. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
16. Align the front wheels. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement Wheel Alignment Measurement.
17. After the alignment is complete and with the vehicle at ride height, tighten the lower control arm nuts to 170 Nm (125 lb ft).
