Steering Column Housing Replacement (Manual)

J 21854-01 - Pivot Pin Remover

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the steering column assembly. Refer to Steering Column Replacement Steering Column Replacement.




2. Remove the steering wheel position sensor retainer (1).

3. With the steering wheel position sensor centered, insert a 1 - 2 mm pin into the steering wheel position sensor.

4. Remove the steering wheel position sensor assembly (2).

5. Remove the turn signal switch bracket (column without shaft lock) or the steering column electronic lock (column with shaft lock) from the steering column assembly. 6. Remove the steering column tilt spring. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Manual)Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Telescoping).




7. Using the J 21854 Pivot Pin Remover (2), and while supporting the steering column housing assembly, remove the steering column pivot pins (1).




8. Remove the steering shaft assembly (2) and steering column housing as an assembly from the steering column jacket.




9. Remove the steering column housing (1) from the steering shaft (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the steering column housing (1) onto the steering shaft (2).




2. Install the steering shaft assembly (2) and steering column housing as an assembly to the steering column jacket.

3. Install the steering column pivot pins (1) to the steering column assembly (2).

4. Install the steering column tilt spring. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Manual) Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Manual)Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Telescoping) Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement (Telescoping).

Note: The switch mounting bracket must be pressed firmly against the steering column tilt head in order for the screws from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly screws to line up.

5. Install the turn signal switch bracket (column without shaft lock) or the steering column electronic lock (column with shaft lock) to the steering column assembly. 6. Install the steering wheel position sensor (2) to the steering column.

7. Remove the steering wheel position sensor centering pin.

8. Install the steering wheel position sensor retainer (1).

9. Install the steering column assembly. Refer to Steering Column Replacement Steering Column Replacement.
