Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (With FE4, FE5)

J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.




3. Loosen the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1).




4. Using the J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the rear upper control arm ball joint stud from the rear suspension knuckle.




5. Remove the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1).

6. Support the rear suspension knuckle.




7. Remove the 4 rear upper control arm bolts (1).




8. Remove the rear upper control arm limiter brackets (1).

9. Remove the rear upper control arm from the vehicle.




10. Remove the 8 rear upper control arm spacers (1).

Note: The rear upper control arm spacers must be installed in the same position as removed.

* Remove the 4 rear upper control arm solid spacers.

* Remove the 4 rear upper control arm spacers with inserts.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the 8 rear upper control arm spacers (1).

Note: The rear upper control arm spacers must be installed in the same position as removed.

* Install the 4 rear upper control arm spacers with inserts.

* Install the 4 rear upper control arm solid spacers.

2. Install the rear upper control arm to the vehicle.




3. Install the rear upper control arm limiter brackets (1).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the 4 rear upper control arm bolts (1) and tighten to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).

5. Install the rear suspension knuckle to the rear upper control arm ball joint.




6. Install the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) + 140 degrees.

7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

8. Inspect the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement Wheel Alignment Measurement.
