Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement (Without FE4, FE5)

J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.




3. Loosen the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1).




4. Using the J-42188-B - Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the rear upper control arm ball joint stud from the rear suspension knuckle.




5. Remove the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1).

6. Support the rear suspension knuckle.




7. Remove the rear upper control arm bolts (1).

8. Remove the rear upper control arm from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the rear upper control arm to the vehicle.





Note: The rear upper control arm bolts must be tightened with the vehicle at ride height.

2. Install, but do not tighten, the rear upper control arm bolts (1).

3. Install the rear suspension knuckle to the rear upper control arm ball joint.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the rear upper control arm ball joint nut (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft) + 140 degrees.

5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

6. Inspect the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement Wheel Alignment Measurement.

7. With the vehicle at ride height, tighten the rear upper control arm bolts to 95 Nm (70 lb ft).
