Transmission Fluid Level Inspection

Removal Procedure

Note: The fluid plug at the front of transmission may not be opened.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Place basin underneath the vehicle.
3. Clean away all dirt and debris from the transmission fluid drain plug area.




4. Remove and DISCARD the transmission fluid drain plug (1).
5. Let the transmission fluid run out for 10 minutes.

Installation Procedure

1. Apply thread sealant to the NEW transmission fluid drain plug. Refer to the electronic parts catalog for the proper thread sealant.
2. Re-cut the transmission drain hole thread.
Note: Service may offer plugs that are not microencapsulated. If this is the case apply thread lock agent to the plug. If the fastener is microencapsulated, install a NEW transmission fluid drain plug. DO NOT reuse the old plug.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install NEW transmission fluid drain plug and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Clean away all dirt and debris from the transmission fluid plug area.




7. Remove and DISCARD the transmission fluid fill plug (1).
8. Add transmission fluid. For transmission fluid capacity and specifications refer to Manual Transmission Specifications Manual Transmission Specifications.
9. Install a NEW transmission fluid fill plug and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
10. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement Service and Repair.
