Brake Fluid Reservoir: Service and Repair




Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning Brake Fluid Irritant Warning.


Caution:
Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution Vehicle Damage Warnings.

1. Remove and properly dispose of the fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir.

2. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.





3. Compress the locking tabs and remove the brake fluid level indicator switch (1).





4. Remove the master cylinder reservoir bolts (1).





5. Remove the master cylinder reservoir (1) by lifting the reservoir straight upward.





6. Remove the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Lightly lubricate the master cylinder reservoir seals with GM approved brake fluid from a clean, sealed, brake fluid container.





2. Install the master cylinder reservoir seals (1).





Note:
Ensure the master cylinder reservoir is fully seated in the master cylinder reservoir seals.

3. Install the master cylinder reservoir (1) by aligning the reservoir bayonets with the master cylinder ports and pressing the reservoir straight downward.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the master cylinder reservoir bolts (1).





Note:
Ensure the locking tabs are fully engaged in the master cylinder reservoir.

5. Install the brake fluid level indicator switch (1).

6. Connect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.

7. Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling.
