Exhaust Muffler Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





2. Remove the exhaust front pipe fasteners (1) and remove the exhaust muffler (3).

3. Discard the exhaust gasket (2).





4. Remove the front exhaust muffler hangers (1) from the hanger brackets (2).

5. Support the front exhaust muffler with a suitable hanger.





6. Remove the exhaust muffler (2) from the exhaust isolators (1).

Note:
Clean and lubricate the exhaust muffler hanger rods for ease of installation.

7. With the aid of a second technician, lower the exhaust muffler to the floor.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the exhaust muffler (2) into the exhaust muffler isolators (1).





2. Install the exhaust hangers (1) into the exhaust bracket hangers (2).





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the exhaust muffler (3) into the exhaust front pipe with a NEW gasket (2). Tighten the fasteners (1) to 43 Nm (32 lb ft).

4. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
