Starter Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
3. Remove the radiator air lower baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor connector. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Remove the bank 2 knock sensor. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2.
7. Remove the starter heat shield fastener (1) and the starter heat shield (2).
8. Disconnect the battery positive cable fastener (1), from the starter.
9. Remove the battery positive cable (3) from the starter.
10. Remove the top starter mounting fastener (1) and reposition the starter.
11. Disconnect the engine harness connector and remove the lower starter fastener (1).
12. Remove the starter (2).
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
1. Position the starter (2), connect the engine harness connector and loosely install the top fastener (1).
2. Install the bank 2 knock sensor. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2.
3. Install the battery positive cable terminal (3) to the starter.
4. Tighten the battery positive cable fastener (1) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
5. Raise the vehicle.
6. Install the lower starter fastener (1) and tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Tighten the upper starter fastener (1) to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).
9. Install the starter heat shield (2) and tighten the starter heat shield fastener (1) to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
10. Install the engine coolant temperature sensor connector. Refer to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Install the radiator air lower baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
