J-42640 - Steering Column Anti-rotation Pin

Removal Procedure
Caution:
With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:
* The steering column
* The intermediate shaft(s)
* The steering gear
After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has became un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.
1. Insert the J-42640 - pininto the steering column access hole in order to lock the steering column.
2. Place drain pans under the vehicle.
3. Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
5. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
6. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear pinion shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.
7. Disconnect both of the outer tie rods from the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
8. Remove the rear engine mount. Refer to Engine Rear Mount Replacement Engine Rear Mount Replacement.
9. Remove the 2 steering gear bolts (1, 3) and the 2 nuts (2, 4).
10. On the right side of the frame, disconnect the 2 retainers and the power steering fluid cooling pipe (1) from the frame.
Caution:
Do not lower the rear of the frame too far as damage to the engine components nearest to the cowl may result.
11. Lower the rear of the frame in order to access the steering gear. Refer to Frame Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose from the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement.
13. Remove the steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal.
Discard the seal.
14. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooling pipe from the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooling Pipe Replacement Power Steering Fluid Cooling Pipe Replacement.
15. Remove the power steering fluid cooling pipe O-ring seal.
Discard the seal.
16. Remove the steering gear (1) through the left wheel opening.
17. Transfer components as necessary.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the steering gear (1) in the vehicle through the left wheel opening.
2. Install a NEW power steering fluid cooling pipe O-ring seal.
Caution:
Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution.
3. Connect the power steering fluid cooling pipe to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooling Pipe Replacement Power Steering Fluid Cooling Pipe Replacement.
4. Install a NEW power steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal.
5. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement.
6. Install the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement Service and Repair.
7. On the right side of the frame, connect the 2 retainers and the power steering fluid cooling pipe (1) to the frame.
Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
8. Install the 2 steering gear bolts (1, 3) and the 2 nuts (2, 4). Hold the nuts and tighten the steering gear bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb ft).
9. Install the rear engine mount. Refer to Engine Rear Mount Replacement Engine Rear Mount Replacement.
10. Connect both of the outer tie rods to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
11. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear pinion shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.
12. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Remove the J-42640 - pinfrom the steering column.
15. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding Service and Repair.
16. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
17. Remove the drain pans.
18. Measure and adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment.
