DTC Descriptor
DTC B1474 02
-
Passenger Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit Short to Ground
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The passenger exterior door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to the keyless entry control module when the passenger exterior door handle switch is activated. These inputs allow the keyless entry control module to detect a passenger door open request. The keyless entry control module provides a signal voltage to the passenger exterior door handle switch via the passenger door handle switch signal circuit. When the passenger door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the keyless entry control module is pulled to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The remote control door lock receiver detects the passenger exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground or closed for greater than 60 s.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The passenger door will not open when the exterior passenger door handle is pulled unless the door is first unlocked.
* The passenger exterior door handle will fail to trigger an unlock command of a locked vehicle.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 40 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool keyless entry control module Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch parameter while pulling and releasing the passenger door handle. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive each time the handle is pulled and released.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27P door handle switch - passenger exterior.
2. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
4. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 1. Verify the scan tool Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module
5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27P door handle switch - passenger exterior.
Component Testing
Passenger Door Handle Switch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27P door handle switch - passenger exterior.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1.
• If not the specified value, replace the B27P door handle switch - passenger exterior.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 5 ohms between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1
• If greater than the specified range, replace the B27P door handle switch - passenger exterior.
