Diagnostic Aids
Inadmissible high battery discharge may also a result from a parasitic current drain.

Circuit/System Verification
Engine running, observe the charge indicator on the instrument cluster or message in the driver information center display. The charge indicator on the instrument cluster should be turned OFF and the driver information center display should not display any charging system message.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition ON, verify that no G13 Generator or B18 Battery Current Sensor DTCs are set that may cause a charging system concern.
• If DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
2. Ignition OFF, measure the voltage across the battery terminals. The voltage should read 12.0 V or greater at room temperature.
• If not within specified range, refer to Battery Inspection/Test Battery Inspection/Test.
3. Connect battery and ensure correct V-belt installation
Note:
Ensure vehicle accessories are OFF for the next step and the battery is in a good condition.
4. Test the B+ circuit and the Ground circuit as listed below at operation temperature.
* Engine running, increase engine speed to 2 500 RPM. Measure the battery voltage at the G13 Generator terminal B+ X1 and C1 Battery terminal 31. The voltage should be between 12.6-15.0 V.
* Engine running, increase engine speed to 2 500 RPM. Turn ON all vehicle accessories. Measure the battery voltage at the G13 Generator terminal B+ X1 and C1 Battery terminal 31. The voltage should be between 12.6-15.0 V.
• If not within specified range, proceed with step 5.
• If all the circuit tests normal, proceed with step 6.
5. Test both the B+ circuit and the Ground circuit for an open/high resistance as listed below.
* Engine running, increase engine speed to 2 500 RPM. Turn ON all vehicle accessories. Test for less than 0.5 V between the G13 Generator terminal B+ X1 and C1 Battery terminal 30.
• If greater than the specified value, test all B+ cable related components and repair or replace the concerned part.
* Engine running, increase engine speed to 2 500 RPM. Turn ON all vehicle accessories. Test for less than 0.5 V between the G13 Generator housing and C1 Battery terminal 31.
• If greater than the specified value, verify the generator is correctly mounted or replace the negative battery cable.
• If all the circuit tests normal, proceed with step 6
6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the G13 Generator, increase engine speed to 2 500 RPM. Measure the battery voltage at the G13 Generator terminal B+ X1 and C1 Battery terminal 31. The voltage should be between 13.2-14.2 V.
• If not within specified range, proceed with Component Testing before replacing the G13 Generator.
• If all the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
Component Testing
Dynamic Test
1. Connect a oscilloscope at the G13 Generator terminal B+ X1 and the G13 Generator generator housing.
2. Engine run at 2 500 RPM.
3. Compare the pictured signal with the following references Generator Oscilloscope Information Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
Repair Instructions
