DTC Descriptor
DTC B0969 02
- Rear Defog Indicator Circuit Short to Ground
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the voltage level in the rear window defog indicator control circuit. The voltage level should be low while the rear window defog indicator is illuminated and the voltage will be near system voltage when the rear window defog indicator is not illuminated.
Conditions for Running the DTC
When the rear window defogger has been commanded ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in the rear window defog indicator control circuit.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The rear window defog indicator will be inoperative.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Engine running.
2. Verify the function of the rear window defogger indicator when pressing and depressing the rear window defogger switch. The indicator should turn ON and OFF.
• If the indicator is always ON
Refer to Circuit/System Testing.
• If the indicator is always OFF
Refer to Circuit/System Testing.
• If the indicator turns ON and OFF
3. All OK.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K33 HVAC control module.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 17 and ground.
• If the test lamp is ON
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 body control module, ignition ON.
2. Test for less than 1 V between the control circuit and ground.
• If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
• If less than 1 V, replace the K9 body control module.
• If the test lamp is OFF
3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 17 and ground.
4. Engine running, connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 15 and ground.
5. Verify the test lamp is ON
• If the test light is not ON
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 body control module.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit and ground.
• If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
• If infinite resistance
3. Test for less than 2 ohms in the control circuit end to end.
• If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
• If less than 2 ohms, replace the K9 body control module.
• If the test lamp is ON
6. Replace the K33 HVAC control module.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
