Circuit/System Description
This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the engine control module (ECM). This diagnostic also addresses if the ECM is not programmed or is programmed incorrectly.
The ECM monitors its ability to read and write to the memory. It also monitors a timing function.
Conditions for Running the DTC
P0601
* The ignition switch is in run or crank position.
* The check sum calculation at power-down in the last drive cycle had completely finished.
* DTC P0601 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.
P0602
* The ignition switch is in run or crank position.
* DTC P0602 runs at power-up and once per second continuously after that.
P0603
* The ignition switch is in run or crank position.
* DTC P0603 runs once at power-up.
P0604
* The ignition switch is in run or crank position.
* The read/write test at power-down in the last drive cycle had completely finished.
* DTC P0604 runs first memory scan within 30 seconds at all engine conditions - diagnostic runs continuously in the background loop.
P0606
* The ignition switch is in run or crank position.
* The run/crank voltage is greater than 6.41 V.
* DTC P0606 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.
P062F
* The ignition is in the unlock, accessory, run, or crank position.
* DTCs P062F runs once at power-up.
P16F3
* The ignition is in the unlock, accessory, run, or crank position.
* The engine speed is between 1-3 199 RPM
* DTCs P16F3 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.
P2610
* DTCs P0111, P0112, or P0113 are not set.
* The intake air temperature (IAT) is between -256 to +256°C (-428.8 to +492.8°F).
Count Up Test:
- The engine or the ignition is OFF.
- The DTC runs continuously from key OFF or engine OFF until the controller shutdown and the above conditions are met for greater than 4 s.
Range Test:
- The ECM is powering down.
- The DTC runs one time when the controller is powered down and the above conditions are met.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The ECM detects an internal failure or incomplete or incorrect programming.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* DTC P0601, P0602.P0603, P0604, P0606, P062F, and P16F3 are Type A DTCs.
* DTC P2610 is a Type B DTC.
* The ECM will disable engine operating or command the TAC system to operate in a reduced engine power mode.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* DTC P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606, P062F, and P16F3 are Type A DTCs.
* DTC P2610 is a Type B DTC.
Diagnostic Aids
* A low battery condition may cause DTC P0606, and P2610 to set.
* An intermittent condition at the ignition switch may cause DTC P2610 to set.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify that DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, or P06A3 does not set.
• If a DTC is set, refer to DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, or P06A3 (LUW, ECM) Powertrain Management (LUW, ECM) for further diagnosis.
2. Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606, P062B, P062F, P0630, P16F3, or P2610 should not set.
3. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition ON, clear the DTC information with a scan tool.
2. Observe the scan tool DTC information. Verify that DTC P0602 or P0630 does not set.
• If DTC P0602 or P0630 failed this ignition, reprogram the K20 Engine Control Module. Refer to Control Module References Control Module References. If the DTC resets, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
3. Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify that DTC P0601, P0603, P0604, P0606, P062B, P062F, P16F3, or P2610 does not set.
• If a DTC failed this ignition, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
