Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill

Removal Procedure

Warning

The transmission fluid is hot. Caution must be taken to prevent personal injury when the transmission fluid drains from the transmission.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the front suspension skid plate, if equipped. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Skid Plate Replacement .

3. Place basin underneath.

4. Clean away all dirt and debris from transmission case plug area.





Note:
If the front differential carrier cover is removed, the transmission fluid is discharged.

5. Remove the clutch and differential housing cover bolts (1).

6. Remove the clutch and differential housing cover (2) and allow the transmission to drain completely.

7. Remove and DISCARD the clutch and differential housing cover gasket.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the NEW clutch and differential housing cover gasket.

2. Install the clutch and differential housing cover (2).

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the clutch and differential housing cover bolts (1) and tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb ft).





Warning

Use care when working around exhaust heat shields. The heat shields may have sharp edges and can cause personal injury if contact is made. Always install a temporary cover to the heat shield to reduce the risk of injury.

4. Remove and DISCARD the transmission case plug (1).

5. Add transmission fluid until it seeps out of plug hole.

6. Install the NEW transmission case plug (1) and tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb in) plus 45-135 degrees.

7. Install the front suspension skid plate, if equipped. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Skid Plate Replacement .

8. Lower the vehicle.
