DTC Descriptor

DTC B132F 5A
- Folding Top Position not Plausible

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The operation of the convertible top is semi-automatic. The user of the vehicle manually latches and unlatches the convertible top while hydraulic power actuation provides the force to raise and lower the top. The folding top position sensor is active when the top is fully retracted into its trunk storage area and properly stowed. The folding top header latch switch is inactive when the top is fully closed and the front header latch is engaged.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Battery voltage must be between 9-16 V.

* Folding top is operated.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The folding top header latch position switch is unlatched and the folding top position sensor is active.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DIC displays "Top not Secure" when folding top control switch is activated.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.

Diagnostic Aids

* Scan tool must remain connected and turned on to keep K23 folding top module active during diagnostics.

* If DTCs B369E or B370F are set, diagnose those DTCs before diagnosing DTC B132F.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Header Latch Switch parameter while unlatching and latching the power folding top. The parameter should change between Latched and Unlatched.

If the parameter does not change between commanded states, refer to Header Latch Switch Malfunction.

2. Observe the scan tool Folding Top Stowed Sensor Signal parameter while fully operating and closing the power folding top. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

If the parameter does not change between commanded states, refer to Folding Top Position Sensor Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Header Latch Switch Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B140 folding top header latch position switch.

2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal B and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

3. Ignition ON, test for B+ between the signal circuit terminal A and ground.

If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the signal circuit terminal A and ground.

If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

5. If all circuits test normal, replace the B140 folding top header latch position switch.

Folding Top Position Sensor Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B45 folding top position sensor.

2. Connect a test lamp between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.

3. Ignition ON, trunk closed, command the power folding top to open and close with the power folding top switch. The test lamp should illuminate when the power folding top switch is activated.

If the test lamp is always ON, test the B+ circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

If the test lamp is always OFF, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

4. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and the signal circuit terminal 2.

5. Ignition ON, command the power folding top to open and close with the power folding top switch. The test lamp should illuminate when the power folding top switch is activated.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K23 folding top control module.

6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the K23 folding top control module.

7. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.

8. If all circuits test normal, replace the B45 folding top position sensor.
