Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2).
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed. Do not reuse the brake caliper guide pin bolts.
3. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, remove and discard the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
Caution:
Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
4. Remove the disc brake caliper (1) and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
5. Remove the outer disc brake pad (1).
6. Remove the inner disc brake pad (2).
7. Remove the disc brake pad springs (1).
Note:
The brake caliper bracket bolts must be replaced any time they are removed. Do not reuse the brake caliper bracket bolts.
8. Remove and discard the disc brake caliper bracket bolts (1).
9. Remove the disc brake caliper bracket (1).
10. Inspect the disc brake hardware. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the disc brake caliper bracket (1).
Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
Note:
The brake caliper bracket bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
2. Install 2 new disc brake caliper bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb ft) + 90 degrees.
3. Install the disc brake pad springs (1).
4. Install the outer disc brake pad (1).
5. Install the inner disc brake pad (2).
6. Install the disc brake caliper (1).
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
7. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install 2 new brake caliper guide pin bolts (1) and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wQ50)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (wRT2).
