Front Transverse Spring Replacement
Special Tools
J-33432-B - Leaf Spring Compressor
For regional equivalent tools, refer to Special Tools Front Suspension.
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.
Note: It is not necessary to remove both front lower control arms.
3. Remove one of the front lower control arms from the vehicle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement Lower Control Arm Replacement.
Note: Do not scratch the front transverse spring surface.
4. Using the J-33432-B - compressor (3), and adapters J-33432-97 (1) and (2), compress to the transverse spring.
Note: Do not reuse the bolts.
5. Remove and discard the transverse spring retainer bolts (1).
6. Remove the transverse spring retainer.
7. Remove the transverse spring (4) and theJ-33432-B - compressor (3) from the vehicle.
8. If the front transverse spring is to be replaced, remove the J-33432-B - compressor and the adapters from the front transverse spring.
9. If the front transverse spring is to be replaced, measure and record the gap between the surface of the front transverse spring and the spring adjuster pads.
10. If the front transverse spring is to be replaced, remove the spring adjusters.
Installation Procedure
1. If the front transverse spring is to be replaced, install the spring adjusters to the new front transverse spring.
2. If the front transverse spring is to be replaced, set the spring adjuster gaps to the measurement recorded during the removal.
3. Install the J-33432-B - compressor (3), and the adapters J-33432-97 (1) and (2) on the front transverse spring (4).
4. Position the front spring (4), J 33432-B - compressor (3), and the adpaters J-33432-97 (1) and (2) in the vehicle.
5. Install the front transverse spring retainers.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
6. Install new transverse spring retainer bolts and tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb ft).
Caution:
Do not remove the transverse leaf spring compressor tool until after the shock absorber has been installed. The pad on the transverse leaf spring bolt could move out of position resulting in damage to the pad or a rattle in the suspension.
7. Install the lower control arm assembly. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement Lower Control Arm Replacement.
8. Remove the J-33432-B - compressor, J-33432-97 and the adapters (1).
9. Remove the jack stands from the lower control arms.
10. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.
11. Adjust the front trim height. Refer to Trim Height Specifications Trim Height Specifications.
12. Perform a front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement Wheel Alignment Measurement.
