DTC Descriptors

DTC C0288 00

-
Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit

DTC C0288 02

-
Brake Pad Wear Signal Circuit Short to Ground

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the brake pad wear indicators. When the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects the brake pad to be worn down to an unacceptable level a warning message will be displayed on the DIC warning the owner to service the brake pad and rotors.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The engine is running.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Worn brake pads, or a short to ground on the sensor signal circuit.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

A DIC message and/or a warning message may be displayed

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.

* The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Verify brake wear sensors are not open due to worn brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad Inspection (JL9, J55, J56) Brake Pad Inspection (JL9, J55, J56)Brake Pad Inspection (J57) Brake Pad Inspection (J57).

If brake pads are worn, replace the brake pads.

2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.

3. Test for less than 3 ohms between the signal circuit terminal 23 and the voltage reference circuit terminal 30.

If greater than the specified range, test the signal and voltage reference circuits for an open/high resistance.

4. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 23 and ground.

If not the specified value, test the terminals listed below for a short to ground:

* Terminal 23

* Terminal 30

5. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the signal circuit terminal 23 and ground.

If test lamp illuminates, test the terminals listed below for a short to voltage:

* Terminal 23

* Terminal 30

6. If all circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.
